Year of the Bus 2014

2014 has seen Transport for London celebrating the Year of Bus with a wide range of activities and installations.  As part of this, a series of ‘bus’ sculptures made of fibreglass have been painted by local artists and displayed in boroughs around and in central London.  I was fortunate enough to have my design ‘Wide Ride’ commissioned for Croydon’s ‘bus’ sculpture route. This is my original design:

I think the finished ‘bus’ remained quite true to the original design and I had great fun with the mosaic ‘creepers’ and painting it. The sculpture is now situated on a specially constructed plinth in Wandle Park in Croydon and will be on display throughout December 2014. Here are photos of it in the studio once it was painted and varnished:

It will be displayed with the other ‘buses’ in Greenwich in January before being auctioned for charity in February 2015.  More facts etc can be found at – look for the section Sculpture Trails on the right hand side of the page.
