This is a really fun activity to do with pupils even as young as 7 or 8. You do need some specialist materials such as ‘roving’ which is washed and carded wool, but other than that it is surprisingly easy to do and you can add all kinds of different embellishments to the finished pieces, depending on the age of the children involved. Here are some of the pieces that I’ve made to show pupils what you can do with felt:

felt panel made with iris detail.

The felt iris panel was quilted and stitched with beads.

Yellow felt bag with applique and felt balls.

Blue felt bag with embroidery, beading and silk cocoons

stitching on the back of the two felt bags.

moulded felt conical form with applique, needle felt and wire.

materials for making felt flowers.

Moulded felt and needle felt ‘tea cosy’ with applique and felt balls.
